Are Global Knowledge Networks a form of Cluster 2.0?

Welcome to my attempt on a semi academic blog on businesses strategy.

The first part of my blog will go in depth to what I perceive as the differences to an international cluster network and to the global knowledge network. In this intro I Will try to explain why this is an issue.

To add context to why this should be of interest. One major focus of Norwegian Innovation, a  well funded government program,  is the development of competitive advantage as a nation. One of the tools used to attepmt to accomplish this goal has been to copy the Northern American success story from the Silicon Valley cluster.

Put short the idea of agglomeration economies has been a proven solution to logistical and scale problems. But what they observed in clusters like Silicon Valley where additional effects. This included improved knowledge development, learning and innovation in the participating businesses.

This effect of from geographical uniqueness called clusters have been the talk of the town of late. But it is hard to explain why this effect can't be replicated using other means. Or if it is as simple as clumping businesses together. What I will dive in to in the first part of my blog will be why I basically don't share the enthusiasm for the phenomenon. Especially when seen from the Norwegians perspective.

Sources will be inserted soon.
